Why is grass-fed meat better?
It's real food, nothing added
Grass-fed meat is simply that: meat from animals that eat their natural diet of grass.
Our animals live in a natural environment, grazing on pasture. When winter comes, they are still free to roam the pasture and eat what they can find, but we also feed them hay (dried grasses and legumes) which we harvest during the summer. They have free access to shelter, water and minerals and caring eyes and hands to watch over them. Our choice of heritage breeds means our animals can thrive on foraging for their food without the need for grain.

WHY IS A NATURAL DIET IMPORTANT?
- Cattle and sheep are ruminants. Their natural diet of grass is high in fiber. When fed a low-fiber, grain-fed diet, ruminants can be stressed and become sick, due to rapid production of harmful bacteria. The result can be ulcers, abscesses and potential sudden death.
- These problems are often combated with maintenance doses of antibiotics and/or immunizations. This can cause another set of problems for the animal with drug resistance or other side effects.
- Improper or overuse of antibiotics in animals can lead to drug residue being passed on to people who eat the animal.
- It's been confirmed that grain-based diets for cattle can promote Escherichia coli (E. coli) in the digestive tract of cattle, which also has the potential be passed on to people.
